Generate a NCLEX-RN Quiz from your PDF
The NCLEX-RN is less about memorising facts and more about clinical judgement: deciding what to do first when every option looks reasonable. The students who pass are the ones who practise hundreds of application-level questions, not those who simply re-read their notes. Turn your lecture notes, care plans and review books into endless practice questions and train the prioritisation reflex the exam rewards.
Key NCLEX-RN Topics to Quiz Yourself On
- Patient assessment, prioritisation and safety of care
- Pharmacological therapies and drug interactions
- Infection control, health promotion and physiological adaptation
NCLEX-RN Exam Structure
The NCLEX-RN is a computer-adaptive test (CAT): it adjusts question difficulty to your ability and ranges from 85 to 150 questions, with up to five hours of testing time. Content is organised around four Client Needs categories: Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity and Physiological Integrity. The Next Generation NCLEX also adds case-study items that test clinical judgement.
Sample NCLEX-RN Questions
A client's potassium level returns at 6.8 mEq/L. Which assessment should the nurse prioritise?
Answer: Cardiac rhythm. Severe hyperkalaemia can cause life-threatening arrhythmias, so continuous ECG monitoring and cardiac status take priority over other findings.
Which type of precaution is required for a client with active pulmonary tuberculosis?
Answer: Airborne precautions: a negative-pressure room and a fit-tested N95 respirator for anyone entering.
When prioritising care for several clients, which framework guides the nurse's first action?
Answer: The ABCs (airway, breathing, circulation), followed by Maslow's hierarchy and the nursing process once clients are otherwise stable.
How to Study NCLEX-RN
- Practise application and analysis questions, not recall: the NCLEX tests what you would do, not what you can define.
- For every "select all that apply" item, treat each option as its own separate true or false decision.
- Master prioritisation frameworks (ABCs, Maslow, safety first) so you can rank clients quickly under pressure.
- Review the rationale for every question you get wrong and turn it into a fresh quiz the next day.
